Anishka Maia Mittal (above) from Long Meadow Elementary School’s in Middlebury, was awarded first place for her poster in the Kindergarten level, that showed four ways kids can help save energy. The award event was held at the Connecticut Science Center on May 7. The poster was created for the eesmarts™ contest, sponsored by Energize Connecticut, Eversource and AVANGRID, Inc., subsidiaries of United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas and Connecticut Natural Gas. The contest is in its 19th year. More than 600 students in Connecticut submitted projects, and 29 were named finalists.

WOODBURY — The Woodbury Public will host “The Secrets to Time – Limitless Possibilities with the Invention of Photography” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 at 269 Main St. S.
SOUTHBURY — Femina Melodia, a women’s a cappella group, founded and directed by Jan Gregory, will offer its annual Spring Concert, presented by B’nai Israel at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 19 at the synagogue, 444 Main St. N. Ms. Gregory said she had always dreamed of directing a women’s a cappella group. In the summer of 2001, she gathered a group of nine women who rehearsed all summer and gave a concert for family and friends in September. From that, Femina Melodia quickly grew to the 20 singers who will present the May concert.
