MIDDLEBURY-SOUTHBURY — Four students from Region 15 auditioned and earned the honor to represent the Eastern region of the United States at the American Choral Directors Association event on March 2 in Providence, R.I. Beginning in October 2023, students from Maine to Maryland were recommended by their music teachers. The students then submitted applications and auditioned for the chance to be selected for the ACDA National Honor Choir.

SOUTHBURY — After 37 years in business, 25 of those being in Watertown, Images Studio has moved to a new location in Southbury, 49 Peter Rd. Owner Lisa Daunis explains there are multiple reasons behind this move, including being closer to her grandkids, it being a good area for all the surrounding schools they cover and wanting to have that “nice outdoor area” to take photos.

SOUTHBURY — The Masuk softball team shut out Pomperaug last week, but the Panthers from Southbury defeated Joel Barlow, Stratford, and Naugatuck, bringing their overall record to 9-6 for the season. Pomperaug had no difficulty as they topped Stratford 17-1, as Kaylee Costa hurled a one-hitter and struck out a season-high 14 opposing batters. Claudia Burrus hit a homerun for the winners, while Ava Hare and Julia Carter both knocked in two runs and scored four. Corinne Sartor and Emma Gomulinski had three RBI apiece.

WATERBURY — The Waterbury Symphony Orchestra Thomas C. Clark Young Artist Competition Winner Chris Dechant will perform Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in the WSO MasterWorks Concert, “Heavenly Journey Mozart & Mahler” at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19 at the Fine Art Center at Naugatuck Valley Community College at 750 Chase Pkwy. WOODBURY — Nonnewaug High School will host a concert to benefit the food banks in Bethlehem and Woodbury at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 in the auditorium at 5 Minortown Rd. The NHS Jazz and Rock Ensembles will provide the opening music followed by the headlining group “The Love Cab,” a four-member student Indie rock band formed at NHS last school year. “The Love Cab” recently released their first single, “Car Talk” from the upcoming EP to be released on Thursday, May 14.
