WOODBURY — The first annual Brian G. Barry Day will take place at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, Brian’s birthday. The public is invited to the North Green for a ceremony and dedication of a “Christmas Tree” that was donated in Brian’s honor. Brian was responsible for maintaining and lighting the original town Christmas tree by the Gazebo on the North Green for many years. Brian passed away unexpectedly at the age of 66 on October 23, 2023.

Bennett Square in Southbury came to life on Sunday, April 28 for an outdoor Spring Fling shopping event hosted by Piper and Dune. More than two dozen exhibitors, including local businesses, independent craftspeople and nonprofit organizations, set up in the parking lot outside the store for the fundraising event. There were also activities for the kids and a selection of food trucks on site. Piper and Dune donated the vendors’ participation fees to the Pink Chair Project, a Southbury-based nonprofit with a mission of providing reclining lift chairs to comfort breast cancer patients recovering from treatment and surgery. The Shepaug boys’ track and field team edged Nonnewaug by half of a point to win the Berkshire League Championship on Saturday, May 18, in Litchfield. WASHINGTON DEPOT — The Hen’s Nest is hosting a solo exhibition for artist and longtime Washington resident, Frank Habbas. The exhibition has been running at the gallery since Wednesday, May 1 and will continue through Sunday, June 2 with a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 25 at 2 Green Hill Rd. At 91, after a fulfilling commercial art career and seven decades of painting without ever showcasing his work, Frank Habbas is suddenly on a roll.

SOUTHBURY — The annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony will take place on Monday, May 27 with kickoff at 11 a.m. sharp. The parade route will begin at the corner of Depot Hill Road and Main Street South. It will continue down Main Street South and end at the Veterans Memorial Park at which time a ceremony will take place. All are invited to attend. Main Street South between Depot Hill Road and the Senior Center at 562 Main St. South will be closed to traffic during the parade.
