SEYMOUR — The Miller Macari Family Funeral Home, formerly known as the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, is under new ownership. The family shared with Voices that they want to continue to help community members celebrate their loved one’s lives. The Macaris took over the business in January. According to the new operations manager, Michael Macari, the location was founded as a funeral home in 1842. The Millers bought the business from the Ward family in 1968 and have been there since.

WOODBURY — The Nonnewaug baseball team defeated both Berkshire League opponents, beating Terryville 12-6 to start the week and then scoring a 12-3 victory over Northwestern last Saturday to end the week. In between, Nonnewaug lost a non-league game to Wolcott 1-0 and then bounced back a day later to defeat Watertown 7-6. A little more than halfway through the season, the Chiefs’ record is now 6-5.

NEWTOWN — The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will present in its art demonstration series “Stephanie Birdsall Painting a Floral Still Life in Oil” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8 at The Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main St. The demonstration is open to the public and admission is free. Ms. Birdsall received her formal training at the City and Guilds of London Art School in England. After graduation she spent time traveling through Europe honing her skills as a plein air painter.

For his 8th-grade Capstone class, Woodbury Middle School student Will Parry is hosting “Fun Drawing for Kids,” a series of classes for children in grades 3-5, at the Woodbury Public Library at 269 Main St. South in Woodbury. The third class will be held on Saturday, May 4 from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the library. The class on May 4 will feature Star Wars-themed characters.
