A Blue Star Memorial Marker was dedicated at The North Green in Woodbury on Saturday, May 4. The marker honors all men and women who serve in the United States Armed Forces. Woodbury is the 24th town in Connecticut to dedicate this marker. The Pomperaug Garden Club and Woodbury American Legion sponsored the dedication. Anishka Maia Mittal (above) from Long Meadow Elementary School’s in Middlebury, was awarded first place for her poster in the Kindergarten level, that showed four ways kids can help save energy. The award event was held at the Connecticut Science Center on May 7. The poster was created for the eesmarts™ contest, sponsored by Energize Connecticut, Eversource and AVANGRID, Inc., subsidiaries of United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas and Connecticut Natural Gas. The contest is in its 19th year. More than 600 students in Connecticut submitted projects, and 29 were named finalists.

The Gunn Memorial Library will exhibit “The Wonderful World of Peter Barrett” from Saturday, May 25 through Saturday, July 20 in the Stairwell Gallery at 5 Wykeham Rd. Peter Barrett’s passion for the natural world shines through in his detailed watercolors, which have appeared in over 40 wildlife and children’s books, including “The Wind in the Willows.” While living in Greece, Mr. Barrett was able to develop as an artist. His fascination with the natural world prompted him to paint detailed and accurate watercolors of fish, birds, flora, and fauna.

SOUTHBURY — Femina Melodia, a women’s a cappella group, founded and directed by Jan Gregory, will offer its annual Spring Concert, presented by B’nai Israel at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 19 at the synagogue, 444 Main St. N. Ms. Gregory said she had always dreamed of directing a women’s a cappella group.
